Broadway actress Meredith Hackett appears unexpectedly at the Inn at Kenwood Court in Newport, and its owner Caroline Kent is delighted to see her old friend from the New York stage. But their happy reunion is short lived as four days later, Meredith is found murdered. Does Spider Shipley, a buddy of police detective Hank Nightingale, also newly arrived in the city, have a connection to the death?
Hank’s investigation takes him from Newport’s lively bar scene to Windward, a dark and gloomy mansion overlooking the ocean, its owner a recluse.
